ENVIRONMENT DESIGN

Elizabeth has a background in visual storytelling and world building, with experience creating environments from the ground up. She has designed several short films and larger conceptual projects, illustrating her talents in content development.

THE HOMECOMING

Director: Paulina Lule

The Homecoming is a short film about a family reckoning with the release of their son from prison as he returns to their home in Wisconsin. In her designs for the film, Elizabeth wanted to capture the texture of a Midwestern home that has been lived in for 30 years, as well as the vibrant ever-changing colors of Wisconsin and its passing seasons.

JERRY

Director: Loring Weisenberger

Jerry is a short film about an absent father trying to reconnect with his son by taking him on a hunting trip. In her designs for the film, Elizabeth tried to capture the grit of a small mountain town and the untamable nature of the backcountry.

BAGBOY

Director: Loring Weisenberger

Bagboy is a quirky short film about a man bringing his girlfriend home for Christmas to meet his family, only for her to discover that they are cannibals. In her designs for the film, Elizabeth tried to convey a warmth and coziness to the family's home, at odds with the stark reality of their intentions and steeped in Christmas cheer.

ARSENIC AND OLD LACE

Conceptual Project

Arsenic and Old Lace, the classic play written by Joseph Kesselring, is a dark comedy about a drama critic who discovers that his sweet elderly aunts have been quietly poisoning lonely men as an act of misguided charity. The aunts live in their old family home, a Victorian house in Brooklyn built in the mid-19th century. In her designs, Elizabeth sought to capture all the detail of a grand Victorian home, as well as the peaceful nature of its surroundings, while still equipping it with the means for murder.

THE HORSE AND HIS BOY

Conceptual Project

The Horse and His Boy by C. S. Lewis follows a runaway boy and his companions as they journey across desert lands to escape slavery and ultimately discover their true identities and destinies in Narnia. Despite some familiar characters from the previous books, The Horse and His Boy primarily takes place in the lands of Calormen and Archenland, lands that are very different from Narnia. Calormen is a desert kingdom, and Elizabeth's designs drew inspiration from the Sahara and West African adobe structures, as well as Moroccan buildings and zellige tiles. For Archenland, a more mountainous kingdom, Elizabeth was inspired by the forests of Bulgaria and its byzantine architecture.

ARTIE'S ANGELS

Conceptual Project

Artie's Angels is a short story by Catherine Wells set in a dystopian climate-ravaged Kansas, where the rich flee off world and the poor live in the lawless remains of a shielded city, Kansas Habitat. Artie and Morgan meet as children and together form a band of teenagers committed to helping and protecting their community with the only tools they have: bicycles. The Angels cycle throughout the city, delivering goods, escorting the helpless, and escaping the violence that plagues their world. When researching what a ravaged suburban city might be like on a dying planet, Elizabeth was drawn to abandoned malls, with their multiple stories and storefronts, as a natural gathering place for Artie, Morgan, and the Angels. Her designs capture the haunting emptiness of a bleak future and the grit of people determined to survive.
